This large blue and white transferware bowl has a floral and scrolling acanthus leaf border. The center is an early rendering of "Luce Furniture" of Grand Rapids, Michigan, which was in business from 1879-1925. The bowl was made by Bourne & Leigh, Staffordshire, England, c. 1900 for Luce Furniture, to be either given away to customers or sold. The bowl measures 10 inches across and 2 inches high. It has 4 one to one and half inch tight hairline cracks along the rim that are visible on the underside of the bowl, and three spots of missing glaze in the center design that are from stacking pieces at the time it was manufactured. This bowl is a small piece of Grand Rapids history. Click on photo for more detail.
