A lovely pair of black transferware handled plates. The Romantic style pattern is called "Palmyra". The rim is decorated with oak leaves and acorns. The center design is of 3 people by the edge of lake with trees and a view of a large home. The handles have an acanthus leaf pattern and provide unusual detail. Made by Wood and Brownfield, (Cobridge, Staffordshire) c. 1837-1850 (only one of the plates is marked). The plates measure 8 1/2 inches handle to handle. There are some light discoloration spots along the rim of both plates and one plate the central transfer design was applied askew. Otherwise in very good condition. Priced for the pair.
