This pair of black and white transferware plates was made by Wood & Challinor, Staffordshire, England. The scalloped edged plates are decorated with a scroll and floral border. The center shows a city by the river with a castle high up in the hills. The pattern is called "Verona". These plates date from 1828-1843 and measures 10 1/2 inches across. One plate has a pin head size spot where the glaze did not take. Otherwise it is in excellent condition The other plate has a small area of discoloration along the rim of the plates well.
