This charming Carlton Ware dish in the "Buttercup" pattern, has wonderful detail. Made in Stoke on Trent, England, this piece is marked "Australian Design". Apparently many of the Carlton Ware designs were copied by companies in Japan. In order to protect their designs, Carlton Ware registered the patterns in Australia, which had a treaty with Japan which prohibited the unlicensed copying of their goods. This piece dates from the 1940's. It measures 4 1/2 inches across and is in excellent condition. Click on photo for more detail.
